We’re going to have to take a minute here to bring up a design choice that isĀ unsettling and unflattering on several levels. When Lindsay Lohan’s line of leggings launched last month, I gagged over the leopard leg warmers, shiny metallic leggings, and her leggings with knee pads. Who would wear leggings with knee pads? Lindsay Lohan was clearly out of her mind.
Or was she on to something? Or, wait, was she copying someone else?
Alexander McQueen’s Denim Biker Trousers, at left, are sold as part of his Fall/Winter 08 line, and though they’re
1. actually pants
2. more subtle
are they actually any better than Lindsay’s version? This question obviously brings up a whole other debate about copyright infringement, brand loyalty and of course, brand snobbery, but for now let’s focus on the issue in front of us: would you still wear pants or leggings with knee pads?

I could seriously use a fashionable pair of pants with knee pads. We shot a wedding last night in a Catholic church and I spent a lot of time on my knees. Not on the pews with fabric. On the hard tile floor. For over an hour. Ow, ow, ow.
So seriously, designers, I want some wedding pants with knee pads.
