Now that Mary-Kate, Ashley, Natalie and Mischa are all grown up, who are pre-teens and high schoolers supposed to look up to in terms of fashion? Miley’s a risk-taker but is still finding her footing, Vanessa Hudgens has the jeans look down but has been taking a lot of hits on the red carpet lately, and Rumer Willis needs to wear a bra. But there are a few young girls who are already understanding the delicate balance between chic, sophisticated beauty and youthful edge.

Emma Roberts: Like her aunt Julia Roberts, Emma is a beautiful old with a huge smile who favors polished, modern looks on the red carpet and has even started hopping around shows at Fashion Week. She still manages to have fun getting dressed up, though, opting for flirty dresses, hairstyles and accessories.

Dakota Fanning: Even when she was a tiny child star, Dakota Fanning had a thing for cheeky fashion. She appeared in Marc Jacobs’ ads in 2007 but is no longer resigned to pretending to play with pretty things. Since starting high school and taking on more grown up roles, Dakota’s hemlines have shortened and she’s started putting on heels. Her Vanity Fair spread featured her in glamorous-meets-street layers by designers like Blumarine. She’s got a couple more films slated for 2009, which is good for more red carpet watching.

Emma Watson: The world has watched as Emma Watson has grown from pubescent Hermione to unofficial Burberry muse, and though she’s only 18, Emma’s one of my favorite celebrities to track, fashionably speaking. Emma’s got a thing for gladiator heels,  embellished dresses, Chanel and Christopher Bailey. Plus, she takes risks and seems to wear what she likes.

Selena Gomez: You may want to brush her off as another Disney darling, but Selena Gomez always looks picture perfect. Her hair and makeup are flawless, and she’s clearly the kind of girl you wanted to look like and hang out with in high school. She’s got a relaxed, LA style that mixes girly and funky, but prefers unfussy, groomed and ladylike looks for the red carpet.
