Because even fashion people are now addicted to their digital cameras, the poor Polaroid doesn’t have much of a chance. Since last year, it’s been closing stores and factories, gone bankrupt and just isn’t as handy as slipping a teensy Sony into your purse. But having instant, physical photos is still a huge draw, and the sheer retro design of Polaroid photographs themselves has spawned both legitimate and ironic revivals of the brand.

The Poladroid project is a tongue-in-cheek reincarnation of the Polaroid aesthetic. Users can upload and manipulate images online, framed by a Polaroid-like border that can be virtually “shaken” until your image appears.

Die-hard Polaroid fans can check out Save Polaroid, a website and platform for photographers and enthusiasts to petition, share their favorite Polaroid stories and Polaroid-like photos…from flickr.

And most tangibly, CrunchGear reports that Polaroid actually has plans to reinvent itself in 2009, even “planning for new product launches.” Could they be coming up with miniature, pocket-friendly cameras for this year?
