Michelle Obama’s already been lauded for her personal style choices and affinity for wearing newer, contemporary designers like Thakoon, while mixing and matching pieces from the Gap and other regular retailers. Higher end designers from Georgina Chapman to Michael Kors have sketched what they’d like to see the new First Lady wear at the inauguration ceremony and inauguration ball, and these are a couple of my favorite collections:
From WWD: “Michelle Obama: What Should She Wear?” This collection features a slideshow of colorful sketches by Carolina Herrera, Ralph Rucci, Diane von Furstenberg, Christian Lacroix, and more. Some designers, like Oscar de la Renta, even sketched up dresses for Sasha and Malia.
From Style.com: “Runway to Change.” Style.com asks “will Michelle Obama wear a CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund designer to the Inaugural Ball” and shows sketches by Alexander Wang, Derek Lam, Vena Cava, Doo-ri, Marchesa, and even hats by Albertus Swanepoel.
