Ricardo Tisci has solidified Givenchy’s new, post-Audrey position as one of the most dramatic and important brands to cover. His collection spawned a sudden new obsession with Middle Eastern mystery while also celebrating a different sort of swathed opulence: veiled white dresses covered in flowers, red beading and gold appliques.
Dior is with me on the “underwear as outerwear” bandwagon, complete with heels that featured garter belt-like straps. Looks were topped with belted jackets and extravagant hats in the poppy, bold pinks, purples and reds that John Galliano loves so much.
Rumors about Lacroix going out for good are just getting stronger as reports like this start to come in: apparently only the models were paid (50 euros each even for established girls like Heidi Mount and Siri Tollerod), and the designer’s team went without pay to pull the whole collection together. And even more depressing, the AFP reported yesterday that Lacroix “sank to his knees, surrounded by his models in funeral black and his bride in gold lace, overcome with emotion at the end of his haute couture show on Tuesday, which could very well be his last.”
