If you love tongue-in-cheek fashion like I do, you might die over these t-shirts from Retro Campaigns.
You’ve seen the old-school designs for Obama and the Abercrombie and Urban Outfitters vintage-inspired tees, but did you know that now you can show off your support for the likes of Teddy Roosevelt or William Henry Harrison?
Check out this graphic tee for Lincoln, aka “the rail splitter;” Reagan’s ‘76 t-shirt-worthy logo; an “RFK for the U.S.A.” tee; and the classic peace-lovers’ slogan: “1-2-3-4, W.D.W.Y.F.W.”
Maybe you have to be a bit of a U.S. history nut to want to walk around with “Tippecanoe and Tyler too” across your chest, but there are so many underlying messages wearing a faux (or is it real?) vintage political tee that it’s just too much of a temptation.

Did you know Paris has its own version of blue laws?
And furthermore, did you know that it’s technically illegal for women to wear pants in Paris?
The fashion capital — which is known as much for Audrey-style cropped pants and boatneck tees as it is for trenches-as-dresses — has banned pants for women since 1800, when females wishing to dress as males had to show up to the police station to ask for permission before stepping into their trousers.
The Telegraph follows the evolution of the law in this article, which eventually allowed women to wear pants while riding a horse, and then a bicycle. The law was addressed again in 2003, but then Prime Minister Sarkozy refused to get involved, saying “Disuse is sometimes more efficient than (state) intervention in adapting the law to changing mores.”
Maybe that’s why Carla Bruni’s dressed so demurely lately.

It’s Friday, you’re in the mood to unwind and shop, but for just a minute we’ll have to address something sad. Twenty-year-old South Korean model Daul Kim was found dead in her Paris apartment on Thursday after committing suicide, French police determined.
The Times Online, which pulled from her blog several instances of depression and loneliness and remarks about suicide or giving up, also pointed out that Kim is the 9th South Korean celebrity to commit suicide this year. Kim, who was signed with Next and debuted on the runway just two years ago, has appeared on the covers of Korean Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar and walked for designers like Karl Lagerfeld and Vivienne Westwood.

Whew.
After the Emanuel Ungaro debacle, rumors swirled that Lindsay Lohan would be moving to jewelry designer Pascal Mouawad’s outfit to help with the creative process. But WWD reports that while Mouawad (who has worked with Heidi Klum and Nicole Richie) admits there were some talks about bringing Lindsay on board, there’s no real collaboration in sight.

French-born designer Sophie Theallet (who now runs shop out of Brooklyn) won the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Award last night in New York. Theallet, who has worked under Jean Paul Gaultier and Azzedine Alaïa is a womenswear designer who beat out other contestants from footwear, menswear and womenswear.
The Huffington Post calls Theallet a “Michelle Obama favorite,” and if the First Lady can do for her what she did for Thakoon, this could mean big things for the “bohemian luxe” designer. Theallet is known for taking a stand and using fashion to comment on culture (only black models walked her S/S 09 runway show), but her clothes are universally flattering. So fresh.
**Bonus: if you want to know how the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund got started, Netflix the documentary Seamless, which follows award hopefuls Doo.Ri, Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough, among others.

But it’ll be taped this Thursday. So who can we expect to shimmy and shake down the runway? Heidi’s hosting this year, and since Adriana Lima also just had her baby, she’ll probably watch from home. But regulars like Miranda Kerr, Doutzen, Alessandra Ambrosio, and Marissa Miller should be walking. Stam, Chanel and possibly Lily will join in to give the show a high fashion boost, which makes it worth watching.

That’s what IMG and The International Herald Tribune are trying to prove, anyway. Tomorrow and Wednesday, IMG and the IHT’s Suzy Menkes are hosting the annual luxury conference (this year’s title: Techno Luxury), which will feature speakers like Christopher Bailey, Frida Giannini, Claus-Dietrich Lahrs, and Alain Dominique-Perrin, from Burberry, Gucci, Hugo Boss AG and Compagnie Financière Richemont, respectively.
It’s IMG’s first time to jump on board as both host and sponsor for the event (they normally stick to Fashion Week-y things), which this year is being held at The Ritz Carlton in Berlin, a newbie fashion capital. Past conferences have been held in Moscow, New Delhi, Istanbul, and Dubai.
The conference’s website lists publishers, law firms, brand managers, importers, banks, advertising agencies, designers, fashion houses and communications firms as worthy attendees, so let’s hope they can all come up with something to get even rich people shopping again.

Bras are peeking out of everyone’s tops these days, from beneath sheer blouses, low-cut Alex Wang tanks, and lingerie-inspired dresses from Louis Vuitton and Dior. But Chloe Sevigny and Zoe Saldana showed up at a Prada party in LA last Friday in a new bra-baring trend. Do you likey?

Rosamie Silk Chiffon scarves
I’ve written a couple of times about Nepali by TDM Design scarves: they’re soft, come in all sorts of colors and designs, and are made from natural fabrics in collaboration with women weavers in Nepal. And now Michelle Baldwin and Michelle Taylor-Spearman want to bring you in on the back end.
Together (and with other bloggers — so you’ve got some competition!) we’re sponsoring a contest for one of you to win the opportunity to design your own scarf. Scarves can be made from any of the natural fibers normally used:
- Cashmere
- Silk Chiffon
- Cashmere/Silk blend
- Bamboo
- Cashmere/Bamboo blend
and with any dyeing, pattern or weaving techniques. Color choices are located here, and you’ll need to specify length and width. You can also change up an existing Nepali by TDM Design scarf (but of course can’t copy any of their designs directly).
And designs can be drawn, Photoshopped or created in any of the file types listed in the instructions below, and the deadline to enter is December 10th.

Aspen bags
Do you need a new bag? Like, a really good, really cute one? Take half a second and forget what you know about gorgeous name-brand bags or name-brand prices and start over, tabula rasa.
Now make room in your mind for The Jack Rabbit Collection, an LA-based (as in, everything is handmade in the heart of LA by families of artisans picked by the designer) that uses heart-stoppingly soft leather to make belts and handbags for people like Agyness, Kate Moss, and you. It’s sold at Harvey Nichols, Neiman Marcus, Shopbop and a few other places, but you should shop directly from their site, because everything is heavily discounted. As in, the Aspen bag (top) retails for $575, but you can get it for $371. There’s free shipping, but the trade off is no refunds.
I’m also a huge fan of the ladylike Concord bags (below, left), which are just slouchy enough for downtown looks, too. And Kate Moss carries around the Easy Rider (below, right), whch is discounted to $520.
